"The culture in Tampnet is focused on inclusivity and making sure that everyone’s opinions are heard. "

Kirsty Anne Lawrence [Head of Group Business Control]

Description of your background

I graduated from Aberdeen University with a BA (Hons) in Accountancy & Finance in 2009. I then worked for Scotland’s largest independent accountancy practice for over 12 years.  During this time, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant and specialised in Corporate Finance. In 2021, I decided to move into industry to broaden my knowledge and experience – this is when I joined Tampnet as the Business Finance Partner.

What is your occupation in the company?

My current role in Tampnet is Head of Group Business Control and I am based in our Aberdeen office. My role is pretty varied, from ensuring quality control within Group reporting and working with our investors and senior management team on strategic projects to working with the technical teams on capital expenditure projects.

What does a typical day in your role look like?

There is no typical day and that keeps the role exciting and fresh. I am not from a telecom background, so every day I feel that there is an opportunity to learn something new about the business, the wider market, the various technologies, and the opportunities for the business to develop further.

What’s the best part of working in your team? What is your team like?

We are a small but global and diverse team– what has become clear over the past year is how resilient our team is and how small improvements can make a big impact.  It is an exciting time to be part of Tampnet and the next few years will be both challenging and rewarding!

What’s the most exciting task/project you’ve worked on?

In the short time I have worked at Tampnet I have been involved in a couple of exciting projects however what I love the most is being part of the conversations regarding the strategic direction of the Group and seeing the projects come to fruition.

What’s the most interesting part of your job?

I always feel challenged here and that keeps the job interesting. I love dealing with people so being able to work with all the different departments in Tampnet from all over the world - the management team, sales teams, technical teams, and various support functions is one of the things I love most about my job.

What is one of your favorite memories of your time at Tampnet?

I already have lots of good memories despite only being here for 18 months! All the memories come back to the people who currently work or have worked at Tampnet – when I first started, I was told that Tampnet felt like a family, and that ethos is very true.

Is there anything you are looking forward to?

It is continuing to see the Group expand internationally and watching the current projects that are in the pipeline becoming a reality.

Why did you choose to work at Tampnet?

I wanted to move into industry and be able to focus on one business – in my previous role, I had a varied client portfolio. Tampnet seemed like a good fit for me both personally and professionally. Tampnet has given me a new challenge however also offers flexibility which is perfect for my family life.

How would you describe the culture in Tampnet?

The culture in Tampnet is focused on inclusivity and making sure that everyone’s opinions are heard. Telecoms remains a male-dominated sector however Tampnet is seeking to positively change this and focus on gender equality through the ‘Women in Tech’ initiative’. This is something that will continue to benefit both Tampnet and the wider Tech sector.
