Tampnet, the world's leading provider of offshore connectivity, has been awarded a contract with Porthos CO2 Transportation and Storage C.V. to deliver communication services for the first CO2 injection platform on the Dutch Continental Shelf.

Amsterdam, Netherlands - 17 March 2026

Platform P18-A, a former gas production platform currently being converted into an unmanned CO2 injection installation, is a key component of the Porthos CO2 transport and -storage project.

Tampnet will provide and operate the communications infrastructure for the CO2 platform in cooperation with Porthos. The solution is designed to support critical operational needs and will enable continuous monitoring and remote control of the platform from shore, marking an important step in the development of CCS infrastructure.

"We are very excited about the collaboration with Porthos, since this will be the first CO2 injection platform in the Dutch part of the North Sea," said Huib Fenenga, Country Manager Tampnet Netherlands. " Reliable offshore communications will play a key role in enabling safe, efficient and remotely operated platform operations. We will provide a redundant 25Mbit/s communication solution, which is designed to ensure high availability and operational reliability. This will provide a strong foundation for future CCS developments."

With this contract, Tampnet further strengthens its position as a provider of critical communications for offshore energy projects, supporting both established and emerging segments across the North Sea. The company builds, owns and operated the world's largest offshore fibre network, spanning more than 5,400 kilometres and connecting over 450 offshore installations across the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

Porthos is the first large-scale CCS project in the European Union. Porthos will transport and store 2,5 Mton CO2 annually to depleted gas fields beneath the North Sea. Through this collaboration, Tampnet will support Porthos in establishing the digital infrastructure required for safe and efficient offshore operations.

"This project is an important and natural expansion of our current customer base and activities in the Dutch North Sea," Fenenga added. "At the same time, it enables us to contribute to CO2 reduction by facilitating new, lower-carbon infrastructure offshore."

About Porthos

Porthos is the first large-scale CCS project in the European Union to store industrial CO2 offshore. The project is developing, constructing and will operate infrastructure to transport CO2 from the Port of Rotterdam industrial cluster for permanent and safe storage in depleted gas fields beneath the North Sea. Operations are expected to commence in 2026.

Porthos is a joint venture between Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN), Gasunie and Port of Rotterdam Authority. The project supports the Netherlands' climate objectives by significantly reducing industrial CO2 emissions and has received funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) of the European Commissions.
