FAQ

How do we measure latency?
Latency may be measured with millisecond accuracy using e.g. the ping tool available as an application on PCs. For more accurate network latency measurements, dedicated instruments for network testing can be applied, measuring latency with sub microsecond accuracy.
What is Norfest?

Norfest is a new 750 km fibre cable system being built by Tampnet to connect Norway and Sweden. It provides increased capacity, redundancy and direct routes along the Norwegian coast and into Sweden, with 10 strategically placed landing points. The system is designed to meet high-demand for dark fibre and back-haul connectivity, offering reliable and scalable services, particularly for connecting to sough-after PoPs and carbon-neutral data centres in the Nordics.

A more detailed breakdown:

  • Purpose: Norfest aims to enhance connectivity between Norway and Sweden by providing a new high-capacity and reliable fibre optic route
  • Capacity and Redundancy: The system offers greater capacity and redundancy compared to existing routes, with 700 km brand-new fibre
  • Strategic Landing Points: Norfest features 10 strategically selected landing points, allowing for connections to key locations like PoPs (Points of Presence) and carbon-neutral data centres
  • Back-haul Connectivity: The system is designed o provide robust back-haul connectivity within Norway, particularly along the south coast, and into Sweden
  • Security and Scalability: Norfest is built to meet high security standards and offer scalable services to accommodate future demands for connectivity in the region
