Two years of Norfest - delivering beyond expectations

Two years after coming into service, Norfest has established itself as a game-changing route for robust, high-capacity connectivity across Norway. This festoon system connects eleven key locations between Stavanger and Oslo, delivering route diversity and high fibre capacity with a resilient path for connectivity in and out of the country.

Why we built Norfest

Demand for capacity in and through Norway has surged in recent years, driven by data centre growth. At the same time, Norway's challenging topography and infrastructure crossings make traditional terrestrial routes both complex and vulnerable. Norfest was designed as a state-of-the-art, near-shore subsea alternative that provides absolute diversity, and resilience again environmental risks.

Norfest at a glance

  • Route: Festoon between Stavanger and Norway
  • Coverage: Connects 11+ strategic landing points and data centre hubs along the southern coastline of Norway
  • Capacity & robustness: High fibre-count, designed for mission-critical traffic and maximum route diversity
  • Installed and operational since December 2023, supporting national and international connectivity

Two years of Norfest: What customers get

  • Diversity vs. terrestrial routes: Traffic is routed on a physically separate path from traditional terrestrial corridors to guarantee resilience
  • Predictability & scalability: High fibre count allows easy scaling as demand grows
  • Reliability: Norfest can now boast 2 years of uninterrupted service

Innovation beyond connectivity

Norfest isn't just about bandwidth - it's about resilience and intelligence. The system transform the fibre into a real-time sensing network. This enables proactive monitoring of physical disturbances, vibration patterns, and potential threats along the route - enhancing security and operational awareness, helping maintain signal integrity and reduce downtime. These advanced capabilities ensure that Norfest is not only a transport path but also a smart infrastructure layer for critical services.

Looking ahead

The need for capacity, diversity and sustainable digital supply chains continues to grow. In the coming year, we will further develop services along Norfest, complimentary routes, and build on two years of operational experience.
