Partnership between KPN and Tampnet enables Roam Like Home at sea for Dutch mobile users

Tampnet, the leading offshore connectivity provider, and KPN, the incumbent and a major provider of telecommunications and IT services in the Netherlands, have expanded their long-standing collaboration to bring "Roam Like Home" functionality to offshore workers and visitors in the North Sea from 1st of November 2025.

(Stavanger, October 29th 2025)

KPN was among the first operators to launch roaming on Tampnet's offshore network as early as 2018. The new agreement allows KPN to treat North Sea offshore mobile traffic within the EU Roam Like Home zone. As a result, KPN customers - including users of Simyo and Youfone - can use mobile services at sea on Tampnet's network as if they were on land, without additional roaming charges.

"Mobile coverage is a basic expectation. With this agreement, KPN customers working offshore can stay connected to colleagues and loved ones with the same ease and confidence they enjoy onshore," said Elie Hanna, CEO at Tampnet.

The agreement covers Tampnet's high-performance LTE network across the Dutch continental shelf and adjacent EU waters covering 300.000 km2. It ensures that offshore workers, on platforms, vessels and wind farms, have consistent access to mobile services aligned with their home network experience.
